In 2009 when I left my full-time job to go on Maternity leave, I decided to work from so I could raise my daughter. During this time a friend recommended I attend a seminar on Brazilian Blow out. It was a Revolutionary product that took the hair industry by storm. This treatment took any type of hair no matter how damaged and made it healthy and manageable. After attending the seminar, I decided to offer these treatments in my home-based salon.
My customer base grew quickly, and I started to feel a little more secure in the growth of my business. Let me just say that was extremely shortly lived.
I believe it was Late May 2011 while I was doing a client’s hair while we were both watching global news and were informed Brazilian Blow out was toxic.
I think at that moment I felt completely blind sided and so upset. To make it even more painful my client is a doctor who works with premature infants and is very health conscious. At that moment I felt like a fool and all of my trust in the hair industry diminished.
In that instant I asked my client if she wanted to continue her treatment since we were just about complete. She agreed.
The next day I contacted my distributor and they gladly took the product back. The sad truth was there was no replacement at the time. Having to work without a reliable product really brought on a whole set of challenges.
In the next coming month’s, I remember purchasing every single treatment claiming to provide the same results or better. $15000 later I was financially broke. So, I did what any normal person would do. Go get a job. It was such a tough time in my life to feel failure and to have to look at all of the money I poured into products that were useless.
For the next two years while I tirelessly worked 2 jobs and having to sacrifice my time with my daughter, I decided to use up my inventory.
Even though the treatments didn’t do what they said they would do I knew there were still benefits and I would do whatever it took to uncover that.
In between My work schedule I would read all the ingredients and cross reference them to the periodic table. I would learn where each ingredient originated from, how it was extracted and the level of potency whether first pressed, second pressed or third pressed.
I also read FDA rules on beauty ingredients and the safety of human consumption of these products and the average percentage contained in each basic beauty treatment. I think the biggest break through I had was when I started to grasp the percentages and ratios of the molecular composition and reactions of these ingredients and the differences when you manipulate the variances. The results were astounding. The next thing I did was a hands approach and I took the first $600 bottle of treatment off the shelf and poured it into a glass bowl. For the next week I watched it dry up wondering what is my next step?
After understanding the ingredients, I knew what treatments I could custom formulate together with a $15000 inventory at my disposal to boot.
I first began offering my clients in depth hair consultations based on their current hair state by analyzing their hair on a molecular level. Once I came to a conclusion, I provided recommendations on the type of treatment that would improve the health of their hair. By using the treatments in its most unconventional way, I discovered new techniques and processes that would solve simple hair damage all the way to the most Complex. In doing so I was able to test out my Theory. Through weeks of documentation and analyzing results, I identified the consistency in each product that allowed me to see a clear pattern.
By manipulating the variations, I was able to control the outcome of the level of strength and the amount of porosity each hair strand could hold. From there my curiosity lead me to test hair products and the flexibility of longevity of each.
Over the course of the 7 years working from home I began to create my own signature treatments that provided solutions to hundreds struggling with damaged hair get the results they were after.
